Overview
A member of the Volunteer Steering Committee contributes to the Inclusive Interdisciplinary Resource Center's mission by providing strategic guidance, community representation, and operational support in accordance with the committee's bylaws. Members are expected to actively participate in committee functions, uphold the principles of inclusivity, and adhere to all governing policies.
Key Responsibilities

Governance and Representation:

Actively participate in quarterly meetings and any additional sessions as required.

Serve as a representative of the community, focusing on the inclusion of LGBTQ+ and underserved populations.

Contribute to discussions and decision-making in alignment with the IIRC’s mission.

Compliance with Bylaws:

Review, understand, and adhere to the Committee’s bylaws and conflict of interest policies.

Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive materials and decisions.

Submit required documents, such as identification and residency verification, for compliance purposes.

Fundraising and Financial Support:

Fulfill an annual fundraising expectation of $1,000 through personal contributions, events, or sponsorships.

Collaborate with other members to achieve group fundraising goals, ensuring financial accountability.

Advocacy for Equity and Inclusion:

Promote a safe, equitable, and inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ and minority communities in all committee activities.

Actively combat discrimination and bias, fostering allyship through educational initiatives.

Conflict Resolution and Accountability:

Report any violations of the Code of Conduct or bylaws to the Chairperson or Vice Chairperson.

Participate in conflict resolution processes and investigations as needed.

Professional Conduct:

Uphold professionalism, respect, and integrity in all interactions.

Avoid any actions or decisions that could create a conflict of interest, disclosing potential conflicts as they arise.
Term and Expectations

Members serve terms determined by the Committee and are subject to reelection or renewal based on performance and adherence to bylaws.

Members who fail to meet responsibilities, including fundraising or attendance, may face review or removal in accordance with Article XIV of the bylaws.

A commitment to serving the mission of the IIRC and advancing the rights and well-being of LGBTQ+ and minority populations.

Willingness to dedicate time to meetings, fundraising activities, and organizational support.

Strong communication, collaboration, and advocacy skills.

Agreement to undergo a background check as part of the membership approval process.

Proven experience in fundraising, event planning, or sponsorship development.

Knowledge of nonprofit governance, strategic planning, or community advocacy.

Cultural competence and sensitivity to the challenges faced by marginalized communities.

Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.

Experience with conflict resolution or consensus-building in group settings is a plus.
